Pig, Poultry Production Costs Stable in September

09 October 2012

BRAZIL - After two months of large high costs of production for pigs and poultry, Embrapa Swine and Poultry, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, calculated that costs have remained virtually unchanged in September.

Poultry had a variation of 0.41 per cent, reaching 184.26 points, whilst pig increased by 0.25 per cent, reaching 183.56 points.

During the year, production costs of chickens and pigs accumulated to highs of 37.59 per cent and 28.23 per cent, respectively.

In September, poultry was influenced by small variations in input prices for feed. Input prices for bed and heating, such as wood shavings and wood, decreased by 13.57 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively.

Already in the pig sector, the small variation is due to the stabilisation of the price of corn and soybean meal during the period.
