US Poultry RTC Weight Up Compared to a Year Ago

US - During October 2012, the ready-to-cook weight of poultry rose 8 per cent compared to the same month last year.

According to the USDA's latest Poultry Slaughter report, the preliminary total live weight of all federally inspected poultry last month was also up 8 per cent, compared to a year ago. Young chickens, mature chickens, turkey and duck inspections also rose by 8, 1, 10 and 2 per cent respectively.

The average live weight of young chickens and mature chickens during October rose by one per cent each, while turkeys slaughtered rose by two per cent.
