McLean County has landed a turkey-growing operation that is expected to involve an investment of more than $15 million, create 10 jobs and provide new income opportunities for several farmers, according to McLean County Judge-executive Kelly Thurman.

Courier Press reports that Farbest Farms, a family-owned company in Huntingburg, Indiana, is constructing a six-building brooding hub near Sacramento in southwestern McLean County that will produce young male turkeys.

Those birds will be distributed to 36 farmer-owned growing houses. The farmers will raise the tom turkeys to 44 pounds in size; the birds will then be transported to Huntingburg to be processed, he told the newspaper.
