Brazilian Ag Minister Targeting International Trade to Stand Out

BRAZIL – Agricultural Minster Antonio Andrade is targeting international trade to develop the country's poultry sector in order to become the largest food exporter in the world.

Speaking at International Poultry in Parque Anhembi, Sao Paulo, he said that there are 155 countries currently selling chicken meat to Brazil and that Brazil could learn develop its own exports.

The Brazilian poultry industry employs 3.6 million people, accounting for 1.5 per cent of Gross Domestic Production.

Last month, the meat industry in Brazilian ranked second in exports with 323,000 tons of chicken generating $631 million.

"There are several markets, 155 countries, importing chicken meat in our country. Recently, we opened the market to Mexico. Without a doubt, Brazil could become the largest food exporter in the world," said Minister Andrade.
