The Chinese veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 4 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It describes the finding of one bird of a flock of 1,338 birds at a farm at Nanbu in Sichuan province in central China on 23 April. The whole flock has been destroyed.

The virus has since been identified as a low-pathogenic form of the H5N6 sub-type, which caused a sub-clinical infection in the bird.

The source of infection is unknown.

The usual biosecurity measures have been put in place: stamping out, movement control inside the country, screening, disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s), dipping/spraying. There is no vaccination and no treatment of affected animals.
