Feed Price Fall Cuts Poultry Farming Costs in India

13 June 2014

INDIA - Feed prices are trending downwards, while higher-than-usual mortality in chickens is pushing up market prices for meat birds.

Prices of a few poultry feed products decreased by INR10-35 for a 50-kg bag on 12 June, following a continuous fall in cost of production in the last few days, according to The Hindu Business Line.

A fall in soybean meal mainly led feed prices down, said Aditya Mishra, a commodity expert. Feed prices may continue to rule around current levels without any fluctuation in the coming days, said trade experts.

In the physical market, soybean meal eased by INR1,000 and sold at INR40,700 a tonne, while pearl millet (bajra) went down by INR650 and to INR13,200 a tonne.

Maize eased by INR40 and sold at INR1,320 a quintal. Rice bran oil was at INR54 a kg, DCP was at INR32.60, MBM went up by 50 paisa and was at INR48, DRB went down by INR100 and was at INR9,000 while mustard de-oiled cake improved by INR100 and was at INR15,200 a tonne.

Feed prices

Prices of 'layer concentrate 25 per cent' and 'layer concentrate 35 per cent' went down by INR10 for a 50-kg bag each and sold at INR1,545 and at INR1,225 for a 50-kg bag, respectively.

Pre-starter mash dropped by INR35 and sold at INR1,700 for a 50-kg bag while broiler concentrate quoted at INR2,260 for a 50-kg bag.

Poultry products

Meanwhile, a mixed trend was witnessed in the poultry products market on 12 June, added Business Line.

Broiler went up by INR15 and to INR92 per kilo. The egg price went down by 26 paisa and was at INR2.56 while chicks prices were INR13, INR2 up.

Due to high mortality rate, broiler availability has decreased and prices may improve further in the coming days, said market experts.
