Arbor Acres Successful Series of South African Roadshows

SOUTH AFRICA - Arbor Acres® recently completed a successful series of roadshows for individual customer companies in South Africa.

The events are designed to address production topics, transfer technical information and keep companies updated on any developments which maybe applicable to the poultry industry.

Each roadshow is tailored to the specific customer involved and is preceded by a farm visit to better understand how the internal production functions and an opportunity to review production performance.

It proves the perfect occasion to review Arbor Acres field recommendations and gain insights from the global experience and expertise of the team. The participants discuss performance data from the local market which can be compared directly to their own situations and where appropriate improvement options can be identified to assist performance and continue building success.

This year the road shows were held at Potchefstroom and involved Arbor Acres South Africa customers Chubby Chick, Supreme Poultry and Mike’s Chickens. They were deemed a success by the customers as an excellent way to openly review performance and also become acquainted with what the industry is achieving in the same environment and conditions in the region.

“We host a roadshow every year as a way of promoting the transfer of expertise, says Deon Venter, Arbor Acres South Africa technical manager for breeders and broilers. We bring in international speakers from a number of specialty sectors of the poultry industry. They provide us with the latest scientific developments in poultry during the event.”

Arbor Acres celebrated 80 years in the global poultry business last year and has been at the forefront of the industry as one of the leading broiler breeder brands. Arbor Acres has continued to be an innovative market leader in areas of supply, technical service and most importantly the transfer of knowledge into everyday management practices for customers companies in markets everywhere.

Arbor Acres supplies day-old grandparents and parent stock chicks to customers in over 130 countries worldwide and the annual genetic improvements generated by the Aviagen R&D breeding programme consistently provides customers with the efficiency improvements necessary to compete and succeed in the highly competitive broiler industry.

Jack Searle, agricultural and processing director for Supreme Poultry summed up the customer response, “The Arbor Acres’ road show gives us an independent view of our own progress and the opportunity to tap into international expertise. This is helpful in that independent, factual assessments can direct us to address issues that contribute towards continuous improvement.”

Speakers included hatchery specialists sharing international best practices, data developed from product trials and the advantages of fast feathering over slow feathering chicks in the hatchery.

Technical service provided market data for local and international benchmarking, while also discussing lighting programmes for breeders. Coccidiosis in breeders and broilers was also highlighted together with a detailed presentation on the goals and procedures of the global genetics research and development programme.
