Avian Flu Confirmed at Ninth British Columbia Poultry Farm

CANADA - Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) of the H5N2 variant has been confirmed at a ninth farm in the Fraser Valley, bringing the total number of birds affected to more than 180,000.

The most recent farm confirmed with HPAI is one with 7,000 broiler breeders in Abbotsford in the Fraser Valley region of British Columbia, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

On 11 December, the virus was confirmed at two other broiler breeder farms, also in Abbotsford - one with 19,000 birds and the other 8,800.

The latest outbreaks bring the number of birds affected to 180,800.
