H5 Avian Flu in Palestinian Backyard Flock

PALESTINIAN TERRITORY - A new outbreak of H5 highly pathogenic avian flu has been reported in Gaza.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 2 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It records an outbreak of avian flu in a backyard flock of 1,200 birds in the Gaza Strip, starting on 24 March. Most of the birds died and the remaining 100 were destroyed.

The presence of an H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been confirmed.
