UK poultry farmers "petrified" by a trade deal with the US
UK, 12 November 2018 - Investing in innovation and catering to consumer demand has helped the poultry industry become successful, but challenges including a lack of certainty surrounding Brexit and issues sourcing labour could undermine the industry’s progressNFU poultry board chairman Thomas Wornham said at this year's Egg and Poultry Industry Conference last week that UK poultry farmers are "petrified" over a trade deal with the USA which would allow chlorine-washed chicken into the UK, reported Alex Black for Farmers Guardian.
Mr Wornham criticised politicians who would allow shipments of chicken from North America at a time when climate change is dominating news.
Farming Minister George Eustice responded with reassurance, saying that the UK Government "does not intend to give way."
