Print This Page Cameroon lifts poultry products import ban
CAMEROON - The government of Cameroon has lifted the ban on import of poultry products from countries not affected by avian flu.Cameroon had instituted a blanket ban on imports to protect the country from bird flu reported in some European, Asian and African countries, including neighbouring Nigeria and Niger.
A statement issued Saturday by the Network of Professionals of Poultry Farmers of Cameroon (IPAVIC) said it had suffered huge losses of more than three billion francs CFA and some 30,000 jobs due to the bird flu preventive measures.
IPAVIC chairman Ahmadou Moussa said poultry farmers were affected after the outbreak of the first case of bird flu in the north of the country in March.
