UK Poultry and Poultrymeat Statistics - June 2006 - By Defra - This monthly publication combines information from the UK Hatcheries Survey and Poultry Slaughterhouse Survey results together with other Defra statistics, and trade data, pulling all ‘official’ poultry statistics in one publication.

Section 1: UK Hatcheries Data - Placings and Eggs Set

  • UK placings of commercial broiler chicks in May 2006 were 2% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 1.1). Eggs set were 2% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 1.5).

  • UK placings of female broiler parent chicks in May 2006 were 33% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 1.2)

  • UK placings of turkey poults in May 2006 were slightly lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 1.3) Eggs Set for commercial turkeys were 5% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 1.6).

  • UK placings of commercial layer chicks in May 2006 were 15% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 1.4). Eggs set for commercial birds were 17% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 1.7).

Section 2: UK Trade in Live Poultry

  • Imports of commercial broiler chicks in April 2006 were 24% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.1).

  • Exports of commercial broiler chicks in April 2006 were 47% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.1).

  • Imports of turkey poults in April 2006 were 52% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.2).

  • Exports of turkey poults in April 2006 were 3% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.2).

  • Exports of live fowls in April 2006 were 19% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.3).

  • Exports of live turkeys in April 2006 were 47% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.3).

Section 3: UK Slaughterhouse Data - Numbers Slaughtered and Average Weights

  • UK slaughterings of broilers in May 2006 were 1% higher than for the same period in 2005 (Table 3.1). At 2.24 kg the average liveweights in England & Wales were slightly higher than in April 2006 (Table 3.4).

  • UK slaughterings of boiling fowls in May 2006 were 6% lower than for the same period in 2005 (Table 3.2). At 2.18 kg the average liveweights in England & Wales were 2% higher than in April 2006 (Table 3.4).

  • UK slaughterings of turkeys in May 2006 were 20% lower than for the same period in 2005 (Table 3.3). At 15.32 kg the average liveweights of 'heavy' turkeys in England & Wales were slightly lower than in April 2006 (Table 3.4). At 5.68 kg the average liveweights of 'light' turkeys in England & Wales were slightly higher than in April 2006 (Table 3.4).

Section 4: UK Poultrymeat Production, Trade and Domestic Usage (Net of Offal)

  • Total UK poultry production for Q1 2006 was 7% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.1).

  • Total UK broiler production for Q1 2006 was 7% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.1).

  • Total UK imports of whole birds in April 2006 were slightly higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.2).

  • Total UK imports of cuts in April 2006 were 23% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.2).

  • Total UK imports of poultrymeat in April 2006 were 20% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.2).

  • Total UK exports of whole birds in April 2006 were 42% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.3).

  • Total UK exports of cuts in April 2006 were 38% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.3).

  • Total UK exports of poultrymeat in April 2006 were 38% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.3).

  • Total UK domestic usage of poultrymeat in Q1 2006 was 4% lower than in Q1 2005 (Table 4.4).

Section 5: Other Poultry Statistics

  • UK Broiler Production of compound feed for poultry in April 2006 was slightly lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 5.1).

  • UK Layer Production of compound feed for poultry in April 2006 was 2% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 5.1).

  • UK Production of compound feed for poultry in April 2006 was 3% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 5.1).

  • The Chicken Fresh Price Index for April 2006 was slightly lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 5.2).

  • The Poultry Price Index for April 2006 was 7% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 5.2).
