EThekwini Municipality boosts poultry farmers

SOUTH AFRICA - The eThekwini Municipality has handed more than 3 000 chicks to nine emerging poultry farmers in Pinetown, near Durban, as a grant-in-aid. The chicks include both birds meant for eating and battery chickens for egg-laying. Nomusa Dube, the speaker of the municipality, says the grant will provide job opportunities for local communities in rural areas. Dube says the aim of the project is to encourage emerging poultry famers, those with the vision of starting a business in the sector.
