National livestock ID system underway
TEXAS - The first phase in the launch of a national animal identification system (NAIS) is now underway in Texas. The Texas Animal Health Commission has begun enrolling ranchers and other livestock facility owners in its Premises Identification Program, the first step in a plan that will eventually see almost all U.S. livestock (cattle, poultry, swine, sheep, goats, horses, deer, bison, emus, llamas, elk) registered in a national system.
