NCDC sanctions projects for poultry

KASHMIR - Government have taken several measures to promote poultry Industry in the state in a big way which has touched a business turnover of about Rs. 200 crore annually.

The measures include financial support from the National Council for Cooperative Development (NCDC) which has in principle sanctioned 56 poultry cooperative projects worth Rs.21 crore.

These projects would create rearing facilities for about 40 lakh poultry birds annually in the state. The central Government has also sanctioned Rs.2 crore for upgradation of Mattan, Athwajan and Belicharana poultry farms, an official spokesman said.

This was stated by the Minister for Agriculture and cooperatives, Abdul Aziz Zargar while talking to a deputation of poultry breeders who called on him today to seek concrete measures by the government for development of poultry sector which they visualize to witness consumption of 12 lakh broiler birds per month during the current financial year keeping in view the expected heavy tourist influx this season.

The deputation was led by senior Director of Sofi Poultry Breeding Farm and Hatchery, Srinagar.
