Nigeria aims to produce enough eggs for west Africa: official

NIGERIA - Nigeria aims to produce more than its domestic egg requirement by the end of this year so as to have surplus eggs for its neighboring countries, an official said here Sunday.

Tunde Badmus, president of the Poultry Association of Nigeria ( PAN), made the remarks at a news briefing in the Nigeria's capital Abuja, saying that the government "is already discussing with some countries in the west African sub-region for them to open up their markets for the excess production."

Nigeria had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Republic of Benin on the issue, he said, adding that Nigerian agencies would go there soon to inspect the production process in the country to ensure that no more imported poultry products from other countries would be brought into the country.
