Grampian faces strike action

UK - Strike action could hit plants belonging to meat processor Grampian Country Foods if union members vote in favour of coming out.

Workers are being balloted over the company's plans to change its final salary pension scheme.

The BBC reported an Amicus spokesman saying: "The company is trying to put all the risk on our members as the new arrangement will give no guarantee on retirement of pensions or benefits."

The current arrangement gives workers a guaranteed income in retirement, but a company spokesman admitted that it was in “significant” deficit and under review.

"There are 2300 active members of the final salary pension scheme out of a workforce of 25,000.
