Big anti-bird flu clean-up operation

THAILAND - A major "clean-up" operation will take place in Suphan Buri province next week with an aim to wipe out bird flu, according to Livestock Development Department chief Yukol Limlamthong.

"We will try to contain the virus in Suphan Buri. The operation will be led by the provincial governor and the provincial livestock chief," he said.

"The Livestock Development Department will set up mobile units to control fowl movements throughout the province. Checkpoints will be set up on all road links with Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Pathom and Ayutthaya provinces where all kinds of fowl are raised." Chemicals would also be used to kill the bird flu virus, he added.
