Ban on South African Poultry Products Lifted

SOUTH AFRICA - The ban on the importation of poultry products from South Africa has been lifted. The ban on the importation of poultry products from South Africa has been lifted.

Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives Mtiti Fakudze yesterday said the suspension of the ban was as a result of concerted efforts by the South African authorities to contain and eradicate the outbreak of Notifiable Avian Influenza (NAI).

“South Africa has since met all the requirements for the provisional declaration of freedom from NAI,” he said.

He said the declaration had been accepted by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), based in Paris, France.

NAI outbreak was reported last year, and Fakudze congratulated the SA government on the fruitfulness of its efforts in combating the disease and preventing its spread beyond the country’s borders.
