Newcastle Disease Outbreak In Botswana

BOTSWANA - Botswana is experiencing an outbreak of Newcastle disease in many areas, the Department of Animal Health and Production has warned in a press release.

The director of that department, Musa Fanikiso informed poultry farmers and the public that so far, the disease has been detected in Lobatse, Mochudi, Jwaneng, Gaborone, Serowe, Selebi-Phikwe, Bob-onong, Molepolole and Letlha-keng.

"Indications are that the disease is not limited to the above mentioned places only. Most of the reported cases are in backyard chickens, which are not regularly vaccinated, although some commercial poultry establishments have also been affected," the director said.
