Chief geneticist joins Hybro management team - THE NETHERLANDS - Hybro B.V. has appointed chief geneticist, Gosse Veninga, to its management team (MT) with immediate effect. Hybro

Gosse (35) took over as chief geneticist at Hybro in 2003, when his predecessor Richard Maatman was promoted to the role of general manager. His key responsibility is for the genetic advancement of Hybro’s pure lines and breeding stock.

“Breeding and genetics are at the core of our business,” says general manager Maatman, “and with such a pivotal role to play in achieving Hybro’s commercial aims as a global breeding company, we welcome Gosse’s contribution to the work of the MT - and now feel better prepared than ever to continue to generate sustainable growth for Hybro in the near future.”

Gosse Veninga graduated from Wageningen University in 1994, where he specialised in animal breeding. Before joining Hybro he worked for ID-Lelystad (Institute of Animal Science) as a genetic researcher, and in 1997 joined Hybro sister-company Hypor, to work as a geneticist.

Three years later, Spanish-speaking Veninga moved to Chile to work for another Nutreco company, Marine Harvest, where he was responsible for the development of the aqua breeding programme. As a member of the MT, he joins Richard Maatman, Wilfred Folkeringa, international sales manager, and Jan Schel, financial controller, to drive and coordinate the company’s strategic and financial planning.

Richard Maatman concludes: “Gosse has a wealth of experience in different fields of animal breeding and research, and in his role as our chief geneticist, he demonstrates an absolute commitment to delivering the best possible genetic solutions, and a supportable vision for the continuing evolution of new genetic technologies and for the application of genomics, to greatly advance Hybro’s product development programme.

“Hybro’s management team is now complete – and wholly committed to developing Hybro’s standing as “the preferred partner for the poultry industry worldwide”.
