Bill Would Limit Regulations on Poultry Farms

SOUTH CAROLINA - State lawmakers are considering a bill that would limit local governments' ability to regulate large poultry operations.

Oconee County officials are considering an ordinance to protect residential neighborhoods from having major chicken houses move in next door.

But that is just what supporters of the state law that has already passed the Senate want to prevent.

Steve Collier is an executive with Fieldale Farms. The company has poultry processing plants just across the state line in Georgia. Collier says local government put so many restrictions on farming operations that it seems like they don't want them to locate there at all.
