Farmers Protest Ban On Poultry

INDIA - The Northern India Poultry Farmers’ Welfare Association organised a procession and dharna in Sector 17 here today. More than 4,000 poultry farmers, breeders, poultry medicine suppliers and workers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttaranchal and UT participated in the procession and dharna.

The Association is demanding that Jammu and Kashmir, Army and the Railways immediately remove the ban on the layer bird (hen). The president of Haryana Poultry Farmers’ Association, Barwala, Darshan Singla, said Jammu and Kashmir has allowed the intake of only broilers in the state and that also between 10 am to 5 pm.

‘‘This has caused immense loss to us,’’ he said. Another leader of the Association, Anup Garg said, ‘‘We are suffering heavy losses and the government is showing indifference to our condition. If this attitude continues, the poultry industry would be wiped out from this region by the end of this year.’’
