Russia To Invest $9 Bln In Agriculture In WTO Accession Bid

RUSSIA - Russia will spend $9 billion of its budget on developing agriculture as part of its bid to join the WTO, a deputy economic development and trade minister said Monday.

But Maxim Medvedkov, Russia's top negotiator at the WTO talks, said Russian agriculture was still unlikely to be globally competitive in the next decade

"It is not realistic to speak about [competitiveness] in the next 5-10 years," he said.

Experts have been drafting plans on where the budget allocations will be spent, Medvedkov said.
