NEPAL - Poultry business in Chitwan has been facing hard times due the decline in the production and scarcity of feeds.

Chitwan district, popularly known as an egg basket, had been producing and supplying the poultry products throughout the country until the rumour of bird flu and three-week long bandh affected the business.

"The poultry business suffered from the rumour of the bird flu previously and the recent bandhs have also badly affected the business," said Rajendra Lamichane, vice-president of Egg Dealers Association.

Tikaram Pokhrel, vice-president of Poultry Business Forum said that the egg production has been decline by 75 per cent in the recent days. "Before the rumour of the bird flu, the district used to produce 1.2 million eggs and 150,000 Kg of broiler chicken meat each day but the consumption of the poultry products has been declined by 90 per cent," he added.
