New tariff rate quotas for Brazilian poultry imports

EU - The European Union and Brazil have agreed on new tariff rate quotas (TRQS) for imports of salted poultrymeat, preparations of turkey meat, and cooked chicken meat in the EU, setting ceilings on all three items.

Under the new TRGs, Brazil will be allowed to import 170,807/t of salted poultry meat, out of a total ceiling of 264,245/t at a tariff rate of 15.4%, 92,300/t of preparations of turkey meat, out of a total ceiling of 103,896/t at a tariff rate of 8.5%, and 73,000/t of cooked chicken meat, out of total ceiling of 230,453/t at 10.9%.

Mariann Fischer Boel, EU commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, said: “I am very pleased with the outcome of these negotiations, which ensures that our interests are safeguarded while at the same time successfully completing the necessary changes to our bound duties for poultry meat in accordance with WTO rules.”
