He was speaking after inaugurating a programme to give milk and eggs to children in corporation anganwadis and schools, launched by the City Corporation here on Saturday. The Minister inaugurated the programme by giving a glass of milk and an egg each to Athira, Anish and Rahul studying in various anganvadis in the city.

The Government is also considering enlisting the support of non-resident Keralites to set up factories in the State for producing nutritious food to be distributed among schoolchildren, he added.

In his address, Mayor C. Jayan Babu said a recent study had revealed that more than 30 per cent of children who come to Government schools do not have breakfast. Some PTAs are already providing breakfast to these children. The corporation has decided that it would focus on ensuring the total health of children in the education system — from anganwadis to high schools, he added.
