The BEIC’s Lion Quality Code of Practice has required the sampling and testing of laying flocks since 1998. In August 2007 this was updated to incorporate new Salmonella sampling and testing procedures, in advance of the legislation which comes into force today (1 February 2008). The BEIC is confident that British Lion egg producers will continue to operate to the highest safety standards in Europe.

Around 85% of UK eggs are produced to the British Lion scheme standards.
