Shell Eggs Broken Down 2 Percent from Last Year

US - Shell eggs broken totaled 159 million dozen during December 2007, down 2 percent from December a year ago, and slightly below the 160 million broken last month.

December 2007 contained 21 weekdays (including one holiday) and 5 Saturdays. December 2006 contained 21 weekdays (including one holiday) and 5 Saturdays.

During calendar year 2007 through December, shell eggs broken totaled 2.00 billion dozen, down 1 percent from the comparable period in 2006. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2007 was 2.61 billion pounds, down 1 percent from 2006.
