Russia Boosts Poultry Meat Imports

RUSSIA - Poultry imports grew to 682,800 tonnes valued at $674.9 million in the seven months from 671,300 tonnes for $530.4 million a year earlier. All of the poultry imports were from countries outside the CIS.

Russia increased meat imports (excluding poultry meat) by 18.5 per cent by volume in the first seven months of 2008 compared to the same period of 2007, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said in a statement reported by Interfax.

Russia imported 884,400 tonnes of meat (excluding poultry meat) valued at $2.5 billion in January-July 2008 compared to 746,200 tonnes for $1.8 billion in the same period of last year.
