China Sends Bird Flu Report

CHINA - The veterinary authorities have reported two new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report, dated 19 December, is an immediate notification of the cases, which both started on 9 December in Jiangsu province in the east of the country.

The farms had 161,000 and 216,000 birds (of unspecified type), respectively. No birds died but all 377,000 were destroyed. The H5N1 viral sub-type has been confirmed.
