Two New Cases of Bird Flu in India

INDIA - The veterinary authorities have reported two new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The veterinary authority in India has sent Follow up Report No. 7 (dated 2 February 2009) to OIE.

It describes two new outbreaks of HPAI in backyard flocks, both in Coochbehar in West Bengal. A total of 110 birds were affected in the two flocks of 6740 birds.

The presence of the H5N1 virus was confirmed.
