Singapore Bans Poultry Imports from Kentucky

SINGAPORE - Singapore has suspended all import of poultry and poultry products from Kentucky of the United States, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to TV broadcaster Channel newsasia, Singapore's Agri-food and Veterinary Authority said it has established protocols with the United States to implement suspensions, in the event of avian flu outbreaks, to only the affected states.

Heat-processed poultry products and egg products will not be affected by the import suspension.

An outbreak of Low Pathogenic Notifiable Avian Influenza (LPNAI) caused by H7N9 strain was recently confirmed at a farm in Edmonson County, Kentucky.

Singapore imported 348.2 tons of frozen poultry from Kentucky from January last year till 8 April this year, the report said.
