Some 5,000 poultry farmers and workers squatted on the highway near Belanagar from 11:30 am to past 1 pm, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.

The poultry farmers also demanded lowering the price of poultry feeds and layers, reports Gulf Times.

They also brought out a procession and submitted a charter of demands to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association’s Narsingdi unit president Tajul Islam and general-secretary Hasanuzzaman Sarkar were leading the protest.

The government has cleared import of 30mn eggs from India to meet the high demand during Ramadan and Eid festival.
