US Monthly Egg Products Report - January 2010

US - Four per cent more shell eggs were broken during December 2009 than the same month a year earlier, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their monthly Egg Products report.

Shell eggs broken totalled 169 million dozen during December 2009, up four per cent from December a year ago, and 12 per cent above the 151 million broken the previous month.

Both December 2008 and December 2009 contained 23 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.

During calendar year 2009 through December, shell eggs broken totalled 1,994 million dozen, down three per cent from the comparable period in 2008.

To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2009 was 2,600 million pounds, down three per cent from 2008.
