Micarna Acquires Bernese Poultry Processor

SWITZERLAND - Micarna, the meat arm of retailer Migros, has acquired poultry producer, Favorit Geflügel.

Poultry producer, Favorit Geflügel AG, is in new hands. On 1 October, Micarna SA acquired the company in Kappelen in the canton Berne and will continue to run it as an independent business. The management of the company will continue and the position of its 50 employees are secure.

Favorit Geflügel AG was founded in 1965 by Werner Lätt senior in Kappelen. The 50 employees produce a range of fresh poultry and packed poultry products for retailers and multiples. For more than 10 years, Micarna SA has been working with Favorit Geflügel as a toll slaughter facility. With the acquisition, the management of the traditional family enterprise is secured. Micarna will lead the successful collaboration to the advantage of all the stakeholders and all employees will keep their jobs.

Lutz von Strauss, head of the Poultry group of Micarna und the new Favorit Geflügel AG commented: "Through the acquisition, the continued management of the business in Kappelen is certain, for the employees as well as the broiler growers, who have been supplying high-quality products for many years."
