Routine Surveillance Reveals Low-Path Bird Flu in TW

TAIWAN - Routine surveillance has revealed H5N2 low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) in native poultry on a breeding farm in the west of the country.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 21 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The birds tested positive for LPAI on 2 March on a farm in Sikou Township in Chia-i county in the west of the country. Of the 4980 birds on the farm, 20 tested positive.

The last occurrence of bird flu in Taiwan was in February 2011.
