Viet Nam Reports Four New H5N1 Outbreaks

VIET NAM - There have been four new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in three different regions of the country.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 52 dated 16 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes the four outbreaks, which started between 21 April and 14 May in village flocks in the provinces of Quang Ngai, Lang Son and Vinh Long (two outbreaks). In all, 4,542 birds were involved, of which 3,542 showed symptoms, 277 died and 3,915 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
