Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), one per cent more turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 June 2011 than the same date in the previous year and slightly fewer poults were hatched in May 2011 than in the same month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on June 1 up one per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 June 2011 in the United States totalled 28.9 million, up one per cent from 1 June 2010. Eggs in incubators were up four per cent from the 1 May 2011 total of 27.8 million eggs.

Poults hatched during May down slightly from last year

Turkey poults hatched during May 2011 in the United States totalled 24.1 million, down slightly from May 2010. Poults hatched were up two per cent from the April 2011 total of 23.7 million poults.

Net poults placed during May down two per cent from last year

The 23.7 million net poults placed during May 2011 in the United States were down two per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up one per cent from the April 2011 total of 23.4 million.
