The fifteen VIPs, members of the Japan Chunky Association (JCA), represented integrated firms, independent hatchery owners, feed suppliers and Nippon Chunky, the long-standing Ross Grandparent stock (GPS) distributor in Japan.

The JCA were keen to hear about a number of topics, including; market outlook and growth trends, the role of feed companies at breeder and broiler level, the potential meat market growth, additional costs of production, including rising energy prices. They also heard about the structure of the industry, especially the journey the birds take from GPS through to Parent Stock, broiler hatching and even slaughter.

Visit organiser, Vice President Asia for Aviagen Asia Pacific Ltd, Orapan Chansawat said: “The common image of Japan is one of cutting edge technology but investment in poultry breeding is critical to future performance. When the Japan Chunky Association wanted to look at one of the latest installations we knew that an introduction to the team over at Ross Breeders Anadolu would give them a very insightful tour.”

RBA did not disappoint, organising visits to RBA’s new hatchery at Ankara and farms as well as a number of talks about the future of the industry.

Stephen Jones, General Manager, Ross Breeders Anadolu, said: “We were delighted that our colleagues and members of the Japanese Chunky Association were able to take the time out to visit us. We’d also like to extend our thanks to Mr Sait Koca, General Manager of Beypilic Poultry, one of our loyal customers, for supporting us and opening up the various facilities to our guests.

“The sharing of information in order to further the industry and promote best practise is a core tenement of Aviagen philosophy. We got as much out of the insights into the Japanese market as our guests did from the visit to the different farms and hatcheries. It goes to show that no matter how much you think you know about poultry breeding there is always more you can learn.”

Koji Moringa, President of Nippon Chunky said: “This mission has been a great success, and we have been impressed with what we have experienced. It has been practical and applicable for all who participated to observe how best practices from RBA and Beypilic’s Turkey operations can be applied to the benefit of their own businesses. We thank Aviagen and Ross Breeders Anadolu for their support of our JCA mission.”
