Daily Trust reports that the destruction which took place at the Customs headquarters along Owerri/Onitsha express road in Imo State was witnessed by NAFDAC, SSS, and NESREA officials.

Briefing journalists, Mr Dimka said six suspects made up of drivers and conductors of the trucks conveying the contraband goods have already been arrested and that efforts are on to trace the owner.

He said the goods were neatly concealed using giant generators, jerry cans and furniture. Mr Dimka maintained that the Customs will not rest until smuggling is totally eradicated.

He lamented that several people are lying critically ill in various hospitals across the country as a result of consumption of frozen poultry.

He noted that smuggling activities are not only injurious to human beings , but also contribute to the economic downturn of the country.
