The nominal price of whole chicken in Greater São Paulo has risen 8.2 per cent. However, in real terms, the increase since last year is only 1.8 per cent.

According to researchers from Cepea, the competing meats - beef and pork - accumulated real increases well above the same period, where figures stood at 4.8 per cent and 16.7 per cent, respectively.

After reaching record highs in the second half of last year, as a result of lower supply, prices of wholesale chicken meat in Greater São Paulo this week returned to a level closer to that observed in mid-2012, before starting the upward trend.

The number of animal on offer is much higher this year, resulting in lower prices.
