OIE Reports HPAI Outbreaks in Two Nepal Districts
NEPAL - The Nepalese veterinary authorities have reported three new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Lumbini and Narayani.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received a ninth follow-up report stating that the affected population comprises Giriraj birds of different age groups raised in a household in Narayani and backyard ducks and birds of different age groups raised in a free-range system as well as 42-day-old broilers reared in a small farm in deep litter system in Lumbini.
A total of 1675 birds showed signs of susceptibility, out of which 410 cases and deaths were reported. The remaining 1265 birds were destroyed.
According to the OIE, the birds showed respiratory distress, nervous signs and all affected birds died.
The OIE reports that cleaning and disinfection activities in the infected premises have been completed. Intensive surveillance activities are ongoing throughout the country.
The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
