Brazilian Poultry Sector Prepares to Receive Rosselkhoznadzor

BRAZIL - Francisco Turra, president of the Brazilian Poultry Union (UBABEF), reported that the Brazilian poultry sector is preparing to receive the health authorities of the Russian food safety surveillance body Rosselkhoznadzor. The visit by the Russians aims at evaluating compliance with the requirements imposed on health plans for products that are currently export to Russia.

According to the UBABEF president, great efforts are being made to promote the Brazilian poultry industry as a business partner in Russia.

Mr Turra said that in a recent meeting between the two countries, Russia showed a great appreciation of Brazilian chicken meat due to the level of quality and safety. According to him, Russian consumers want access to Brazilian poultry products.

Mr Turra went on to say that UBABEF has rejected any threat or insinuation that the Brazilian poultry sector is not able to export to a member country of the Customs Union.

"We cannot work with a hypotheses that tarnishes the image of the Brazilian poultry export chain, which is a world leader. Today, Russia is a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and all decisions of the Russian government should meet international standards of trade, and not specifically to national criteria," Mr Turra said.

Turra's statement comes after a statement made by a representative of Rosselkhoznadzor, reported in the press of the country.
