Russian Turkey Producer Krasnobor Chooses S-line

RUSSIA - Established in 2000 in the Tula region, Krasnobor is Russia’s first turkey meat producer. The company recently finished the construction of a brand new hatchery located in Matovo village, Novomoskovsk Region, with a total setting capacity of 12 million eggs per year. Over the past 14 years, Krasnobor has been creating a closed production cycle, including turkey rearing, processing and marketing of ready-to-cook turkey meat products. The new hatchery formed the final phase in the completion of this production cycle and was realized in cooperation with the government of the Tula region.

The opening ceremony of the new hatchery took place on 10 June 2014, after which the guests enjoyed a tour around the plant.

The official opening ceremony of the new hatchery was attended by Mr Vladimir Gruzdev (Governor of Tula), Mr Denis Tikhonov (Vice-chairman of the Government of Tula), Mr Dmitry Milyaev (Acting Minister of Agriculture of Tula), Mr Anatoliy Prorokov (Mayor of Novomoskovsk), Mr Vadim Zherzdev (Head of Administration of Novomoskovsk), and Mr Igor Smetanin (General Director of Krasobor Ltd.).

The installed incubators are Petersime BioStreamer™ 8S and 4H hatchers, all equipped with the patented Embryo-Response Incubation™technology. The incubators can be controlled from a central computer.

“This hatchery project is our child, for whom we only want the best. When choosing incubators, we followed recommendations from other successful turkey producers who have been using Petersime equipment for already several decades, both in Europe and in America,” said General Director Mr Igor Smetanin.

Krasnobor: the first turkey producer in Russia

Before the year 2000, turkeys had not been reared in Russia for nearly 20 years. From 1990 onwards, (mostly frozen) turkey meat was imported to Russia. Finally, Mr Arkadiy Levin analysed the perspectives of this empty market niche. He bought two bankrupt poultry farms in Tula and re-equipped them for turkey rearing. In 2000, Krasnobor Ltd. was established 15 km from Tula, with production facilities arranged on three production sites. Each year the company produces over 20,000 tons of ready-to-cook products, which are delivered to Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Voronezh, Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod and elsewhere in the country.

Krasnobor used to import turkey poults from Germany. However, when an outbreak of avian influenza provoked a price jump, the company was forced to buy eggs in Canada and incubate them in Poland, due to veterinary restrictions. As this was very unpractical, it was soon decided to invest in an own hatchery. Very quickly the choice for Petersime incubators was made, as they are widely known to be the best available in the market and are recommended by several foreign breeders.
