High-path Avian Flu Confirmed in Fourth Duck Flock in Kerala
INDIA - Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) caused by the H5N1 variant has been confirmed in a fourth duck flock in the Indian state of Kerala.

By: The Indian veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No.3 dated 4 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
It outlines an outbreak of HPAI in a village flock of ducks at Vilakkumaram in the district of Kottayam in Kerala state.
The outbreak started on 28 November, killing around 500 of the 5,500 ducks in the flock.
The source of infection is unknown but the village is in the same district as previous outbreaks.
An epidemiological investigation is ongoing and an intensive surveillance campaign has been launched in a 10-km radius of the outbreak.
The presence of the H5N1 subtype of the virus has been confirmed.
