At a time when imported eggs have appeared on major retailers’ shelves for the first time in decades, and the egg industry continues to lobby Government to not reduce, or remove, tariffs on imported eggs and egg products during bilateral trade negotiations with the USA and other countries, a public show of support from the national media offers a much needed boost.

Andrew Joret, British Egg Industry Council Chairman, said: “It is fantastic to have the support of The Daily Mirror, encouraging the public to buy British wherever possible.

“Buying British Lion eggs not only supports British farmers and the economy, but it also gives consumers the assurance that they are buying eggs produced to the highest food safety standards in the world. Because of the British Lion mark, the Food Standards Agency changed its advice so that everyone in society, including vulnerable groups, can enjoy a runny egg – but only if they meet Lion standards.

“So, by buying Lion eggs you are not only supporting British jobs and British farming, but you can also dip your soldiers with confidence!”
