Offers of “no price” specials decline significantly

USDA’s latest weekly retail chicken report showed featuring of chicken picks up from the activity seen last week but offers of “no price’ specials decline significantly. Whole birds fill ad space this week with bagged fryers leading the way, showing an increase in volume and a decrease in price.

Breast in bulk packs are offered at levels intended to clear inventories. Split breast also attempts to reduce their numbers, small packs are the deal. Leg quarters are best in the bag this week, drums and thighs are offered in bulk; both are looking for consumer attention. B/S thighs raises volume, but prices are mostly steady. IQF white meat is priced to move, wings raise prices anticipating their next football encounter. The deli explodes in volume and is alive with good things to eat, with rotisserie chicken and finger foods easy to find. Specialty items increased slightly in volume while organics hold steady.
