Print This Page Sri Lanka: Rice Banned as Animal Feed
SRI LANKA - The Sr Lankan government have taken steps to ban the production, storage and distribution of rice-based animal feed, Minister of Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Bandula Gunawardena reported this week.
A notice in this regard is to be gazetted shortly, he added. According to the minister this has step has been taken in view of the rising price of rice and as an attempt to bring down artificial scarcity.
The government has decided to impose this ban because the rising rice prices are hurting the consumer and until prices stabilize with imports and the next harvest measures such as this have to be taken, the minister pointed out.
