The increase in the world population creates a direct need for greater food production. To meet this need, agri-food production systems have transformed their extensive activity into an intensive activity, leading to the production of large volumes of by-products and organic waste, namely animal manure.

Manure is considered an excellent source of nutrients for agricultural applications. The current challenge is to find sustainable solutions that create value for organic waste through a fast, economical and environmentally friendly process.

Freetilizer, a sustainable innovation by Pipe Masters, is an energy efficient technology for the valorisation of organic waste acting quickly in reduced spaces, avoiding the formation of odours and greenhouse gases following a zero-waste approach.

Seeking the dissemination and integration of Freetilizer technology in the agri-food sector, the Faculty of Biotechnology from Universidade Católica in Porto held an important event, where several national and international entities linked to the agri-food sector participated.

Several case studies were presented, such as a project to treat 240 tons of chicken manure in Mexico that has significant economic and environmental costs to carry out its disposal. With Freetilizer technology it is possible to value this waste by converting into a solid and liquid fertilizer, generating revenue, eliminating costs and mitigating environmental problems.
